Steph Hanlon

Steph Hanlon is a Bangor born artist who specialises in both painting and photography. Her main focus is the creative process and its therapeutic effect on our well being. Her work is spontaneous, immediate and often sub-conscious. Floating landscapes are stimulated by natural form and serendipitous colour play. She focuses on wild flowers predominantly as she loves their wealth of colour, unruliness and fluidity. She is an iPhone photographer and captures the magic in the local landscape through colour and form. Despite working around the UK and Europe in very different fields she has always loved photography and art. After surviving a life threatening brain aneurysm she suffered PTSD symptoms and found art had a positive therapeutic affect. Painting was a tool to aid her recovery. She has returned to Bangor in recent years and embarked on her professional career. She began to develop her work from her home studio and then was selected to join other local artists at Bangor's, Project 24. She aspires to explore how the painting process can help others and is currently in the process of developing courses and workshops for both adults and young people.
