Robin McRoberts

Robin McRoberts was born and raised in Belfast and attended Annadale Grammar School where he was heavily influenced by two teachers, namely renowned Ulster artists David Crone and Richard Croft.  He went on to complete a Fine Art degree at the Edinburgh College of Art where he was a prize-winning student for drawing and painting. Returning then toNorthern Irelandhe trained as an art teacher at theUniversityofUlsterand taught art in secondary schools and Further Education Colleges over many years. He has been inspired by localUlsterartist Arthur Armstrong, British painter Howard Hodgkin and international legends Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Willem de Kooning, Paul Cezanne and Henry Matisse. His work is typified by the semi- abstracted use of bold shapes and impasto textures, the juxtaposition of strong and subtle colours, combined with rhythm, sensitivity and movement to create a unique style and archetypal mystery in his paintings. Robin draws his inspiration primarily from nature, basing most of his work on photographs he has taken of natural phenomena aroundIrelandand abroad.  His preferred medium is acrylic although he also works with collage and many of his paintings incorporate mixed media.
