Mark Geddis

Mark Geddis is an Artist based in Comber, Northern Ireland. He studied Fine Art at the University of Ulster’s Belfast School of Art, graduating in 2009. Although not initially pursuing a career in the Arts he began to re-engage with his practise in 2017 due to the increasing restrictions of a long-term health condition.

His paintings are informed by his background in Fine Art Photography and Film, both thematically and in composition. As well as more traditional landscapes of the Antrim Coast and his local area in Co. Down, he is particularly interested in painting landscapes of the Urban and Built environment. Drawn to the overlooked and the left-behind, to buildings awaiting redevelopment or the empty spaces where they used to stand, he's interested in the idea of “Liminal-Space” and the implication in the phrase that there can exist some space or experience which is not liminal, which is not always in transition and on the cusp of change.

His preferred medium is acrylic paint, often applied using a palette knife as well as brushes to create textured and vibrant works on canvas.
