'Double Dare' is a signed, original acrylic and ink painting on illustration board by Kathryn Callaghan.

This painting was inspired by one of my most familiar, most-loved subjects: bluetits in flight. I never tire of them. They’re small and commonplace enough to be almost overlooked, but when you actually watch them, those flashes of cobalt and yellow, the quick tilt of a wing, the playful darting between branches… they’re anything but ordinary. With Double Dare, my intention was to honour that everyday beauty: the kind that’s always been there, waiting for you to notice.

What I love most is how often bluetits appear in pairs, like tiny companions moving through the world together. Their flight is so zippy and spontaneous it feels like an expression of pure joy… two sparks of colour daring each other to go faster, turn sharper, vanish and reappear in the same breath. In this piece, I wanted that sense of motion to feel alive: light, quick, and full of character, as if the birds have just burst into the air and you’ve caught the moment mid-laugh.

Kathryn's work is created using a mix of ink and gel. She applies the medium in a freestyle approach, often with no pencil marks as guidelines, which adds a unique sense of life and movement to the subject matter.

Packaging Details: We go to great lengths to ensure that your purchase arrives in perfect condition. We only use sturdy cardboard postal tubes and double walled cardboard boxes. We use as much recycled and recyclable material as possible, including newspapers from our coffee shop, Coffee Yard, to pack our boxes.
